One police sergeant who rushed to the aid of a colleague that was assaulted by a knifeman was granted the Royal Recognition for Courage.

Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown following he held a blade to the neck of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the law enforcement personnel and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver subsequent to a road collision in that location in July 2023.

Brown knifed and cut both Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a stun gun.

"Officer stabbed," PC Wolstencroft was heard to say over his radio.

Bodyworn and vehicle camera video released by the agency showed Brown, who was dressed in black with a head covered, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a knife pointed forward.

He ran into the policeman who lost balance and dropped to the pavement, after which Sgt Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the pavement despite being continually attacked with the knife.

Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and waited for a clear shot, concluding the confrontation to an end.

Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "I need assistance on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the neck."

Sgt Ansell suffered multiple deep cuts to his throat and further cuts to his limbs and torso, whereas Sgt Foster experienced cut injuries.

Authorities said Sgt Foster used his bare hands to stem his fellow officer's bleeding before medical personnel reached the scene.

This most recent award arrives after the three officers were granted internal Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the local Police Federation in April 2024.

They were also awarded a Regional Courage Honor in mid-2024.

"The actions of each policeman in the end saved each other and ensured no bystanders suffered any harm."

Brown was sentenced to an secure medical confinement in April 2024, according to authorities.
